Editorial Policy

Blaze & Budget is an independent, reader-supported publication. These are the standards we hold ourselves to. They sit alongside our ranking method and our affiliate disclosure.

Independence — no pay-for-placement

We do not sell rankings, and no brand can pay to be included, ranked higher, or described more kindly. We accept no sponsorships and no free products in exchange for coverage. We earn affiliate commissions when readers buy through our links, and that revenue keeps the site running — but it never determines which product we recommend. When the cheaper option is the better buy, that’s the one we point at, even when a pricier product would pay us more.

Accuracy — specs and prices

Every spec we publish is read from a real product listing or manufacturer source and dated on the page. When a maker doesn’t publish a figure, we mark it “Not published” rather than guess. Prices are pulled live from the retailer and stamped with a date; when we can’t verify a current price, we show “Check price” instead of a stale number. We never present a fabricated or out-of-date price as current.

No fabricated ratings or testing claims

We do not invent customer quotes, star ratings or rating counts, and we do not claim hands-on testing we didn’t do. Our value scores are a disclosed price-per-performance judgment, explained in full on how we rank— not a lab result. This site has no customer-quote or endorsement section at all.

Update cadence

• Prices: refreshed on a recurring schedule so the numbers you see stay current, with the stale-price fallback above.
• Roundups:reviewed periodically and whenever a major product launches or a pick is discontinued. Each page shows an honest “last updated” date — never a future date.
• Annual refresh:the year-stamped “best of” lists are re-audited and re-titled each year, with discontinued products swapped out.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, and we’d rather fix them than hide them. If you spot a factual error — a wrong price, a mis-stated spec, a discontinued product — tell us through the contact page. We check the claim against the source, and if you’re right, we correct it promptly and note that we did.

Sourcing

Factual claims about hunting — regulations, safety, getting started — are cited to authoritative sources such as state wildlife agencies, the U.S. Forest Service and Fish & Wildlife Service, industry safety bodies and manufacturer references. Every guide lists its sources. Regulations vary by state and change; we point you to the authority and tell you to confirm the current rules before you hunt.
